How to Share Your WiFi Password Using a QR Code (iPhone, Android & Mac)
A small QR code by the door ends the ritual of reading a long WiFi password aloud. Here is how to make one, and how iPhone, Android, and Mac each deal with it.
One Code, Any Phone
A WiFi QR code carries three things — the network name, the password, and the security type — so a single scan offers to join with nothing typed. On an iPhone the password never even appears on screen, which is a quiet win in a busy cafe.
Generating one takes under a minute: enter the network name and password, pick WPA2 or WPA3, and download the image. Put it on a guest network rather than the one your work laptop uses, since anyone who can see the code can join.
The iPhone-to-Mac Case
Android has a shortcut worth knowing: under WiFi settings you can tap Share and the phone shows a QR of the network you are already on, no generator needed. iPhones scan a code the same way but do not generate one built in.
For iPhone to Mac, scanning is awkward because a Mac does not read a wall code like a phone. The smooth path skips the QR: hold an unlocked iPhone near the Mac as it tries to join, and a prompt offers to send the password across. Keep the QR code as the universal fallback for Android and Windows guests.
